Privacy Policy for Impact Reel
Effective date: October 22, 2026
App: Impact Reel for iPhone (the "app")
Developer: Cowboy Capital LLC ("we", "us")
Contact: austin@cowboycapital.net
In short
- Impact Reel works entirely on your iPhone. Your videos, the sound in them and the clips it makes are never sent to us or to anyone else.
- We do not collect, store, sell or share personal information. We have no servers, no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.
- Impact Reel uses your camera and microphone only when you tap Record a session, to film your range session and record its sound on your iPhone. The recording stays on your iPhone and is saved to your Photos. A future version may add Range mode, a live mode that would also use both; we will update this policy before it ships.
- The app is a one-time purchase through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never see your payment details.
What the app does with your information
Impact Reel finds golf swings in videos you choose, lets you mark up the video with lines, rings and a shot tracer, and saves clips to your Photos library. To do that it handles the following, only on your device:
| What | Why | Where it stays |
|---|---|---|
| Videos you choose (from Photos, or filmed in the app with Record a session), including their audio and picture | To find the sound of each swing's impact, check the picture around it for movement and for the golfer's swing (for short videos also through the whole video), work out whether the video was filmed sideways or was already saved in slow motion, show thumbnails and previews, and cut clips | Read on your iPhone. Not copied to us, uploaded or shared. |
| Access to your Photos library (read and write) | To read the videos you pick, to show your existing albums when you choose where to save, to create an album (by default one for each session, named from your clip-name text and the date, such as "Driver Range - 2026-10-10"; also a "Best Swings" album if you star a swing), to save your clips and Swing Sequence pictures in it, and, only when you ask the app to delete or replace a clip it saved earlier, to delete that clip (iOS asks you to confirm each time) | Stays on your device. You can turn access off at any time in iPhone Settings > Impact Reel > Photos. |
| Clips you export, including copies with your lines and markup drawn into them | The result you asked for | Saved to the Photos album you choose. After that they are ordinary videos in your library, under your control. |
| Swing Sequence pictures: twelve pictures cut from one swing and, if you choose, one square image that holds them | The result you asked for when you tap Save 12 photos or Save Swing Sequence | Made on your iPhone from frames of your video and saved to the same Photos album as your clips. They contain no markup and no text. After that they are ordinary photos in your library, under your control. |
| Clips you share, when you tap Share on a clip | To hand the clip to the iOS share sheet (Messages, AirDrop, Mail, a social app and so on) | The app makes the clip as a temporary file and gives it to iOS. Where it goes next is your choice and that service's business; the app sends nothing itself. The temporary file is deleted when the share is done. |
| Camera and microphone, only when you tap Record a session | The camera films your range session and the microphone records its sound, which is how the app finds the strike of each swing. The recording is made on your iPhone | Processed on your iPhone and never sent to us or anyone else. When you stop, the whole recording (picture and sound) is moved into your Photos library and added to the album your clips go to; after that it is an ordinary video in your library, under your control. If that cannot be done, the app keeps the recording and shows it on the start screen until you save or delete it. A future Range mode would also use them; we will update this policy before it ships. |
| Your lines and markup: the places, colors, widths and start times of the lines, rings and tracer points you or the app place on a clip, and the points you mark for a shot tracer | To bring your markup back when you reopen a clip, and to draw it into exports | Stored in a file on your iPhone in the app's private storage. It holds shapes and numbers only, no video or pictures. Never sent anywhere. |
| Your settings: clip length before and after impact, slow motion choices, the album you chose (its name or identifier) or whether each session gets its own album, clip name text, sensitivity level, the one-swing-per-window time, whether to look for slow-motion videos, whether the best-strike highlight is on, which hand you swing with, how lines are exported, playback and sound preferences (auto replay, preview sound, keeping the sound in slow-motion clips, keeping the original when exporting with markup), the look new lines start with, your tracer's look and colors, and whether the first-time player tour has been shown | To remember your choices | Stored on your iPhone in the app's settings storage. |
| A learned detection profile: a small set of numbers that describe the sound of the impacts you kept or removed (for example loudness and sharpness), each tied to a random ID for that import and a position in the video | To make swing detection fit your recordings better over time | Stored in a file on your iPhone. It contains no audio, no video and no images and cannot be used to recreate them. |
| Your swing library: a record of each clip the app saves (its Photos identifier, name, the date, the source video's name and the swing's time), plus any notes you write and stars you give, and whether the swing's strike sound stood out from your other swings in that video (worked out on your iPhone from the measured sound; no audio is stored) | To list your saved swings with your notes and stars | Stored in a file on your iPhone in the app's private storage. Never sent to us or to anyone else. |
| Temporary files made while cutting a clip, rendering a preview or export, preparing a share or making Swing Sequence pictures. (Small thumbnails of your clips are made as you scroll and kept in memory only.) | Needed to save the clip or pictures to Photos, to share them, and to preview markup | Deleted as soon as they are no longer needed: after each save or share, and when you close the screen that made them. If the app is closed or interrupted in the middle, a temporary file can stay in the app's temporary folder until the app next starts, when it is deleted. Nothing in it is sent anywhere. |
Camera and microphone
Impact Reel uses the camera and the microphone only when you tap Record a session. The camera films your range session, and the microphone records its sound so the app can hear each strike. iOS asks for your permission the first time, and you can turn either off at any time in iPhone Settings > Impact Reel (without the microphone the app cannot find swings in a recording). The recording is made and analyzed on your iPhone and is never sent to us or anyone else. When you stop filming, the whole recording is moved into your Photos library and added to the album your clips go to, so it is yours to keep, share or delete in Photos; if Photos cannot take it, the app keeps it and offers it on the start screen until you save or delete it. While you film, the screen goes dark and the camera picture is not drawn, to save battery; tapping it shows the camera for a few seconds. Nothing is recorded when the app is closed or in the background: the recording stops if you leave the app. A future version may add Range mode, a live mode that would also use both to show and record your swing and to hear the ball being struck so the app knows when to cut a clip. Before any such version ships we will update this policy and the date above.
Analysis on your device
To find your swings, to work out whether a video was filmed sideways or upside down, and to place lines automatically, the app looks at your video on your iPhone. It listens to the video's sound for the strike of the ball, and to tell whether the video was saved already in slow motion (a slowed copy sounds different). It looks at video frames with Apple's on-device Vision framework: it finds the golfer's body points (in short videos a few times a second through the whole video, to find swings the sound missed), checks whether the picture shows a standing person or sky above ground, and looks for the club shaft and the ball. Only the results are kept: whether a clip looks like a swing, which way to turn the video, whether a part of the video was saved already slowed down, and where a line goes (as part of your markup). The sound and the frames themselves are not stored for this, and none of it leaves your iPhone. The lines, rings and tracers are visual aids, not measurements.
What we do not collect
We do not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, location, device identifiers, advertising identifiers, usage data, crash reports or any other data from the app. The app does not contain advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or other third-party software, and it does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Links to our website and email
Settings has links to this policy and to help (they open our website in your browser) and a Contact us link (it opens your mail app with a message to us). The app sends nothing when you tap them. Visiting our website is an ordinary web visit: like any website, it may be recorded in its host's ordinary server logs, and the website is separate from the app. If you email us, we receive what you send (your email address and your message) and use it only to reply to you.
Purchases
The app is sold as a one-time purchase through Apple's App Store. There are no in-app purchases and no subscriptions. The purchase, payment, receipts, refunds and any taxes are handled by Apple under Apple's own terms and privacy policy. We do not receive your payment card, name, email address or Apple Account details. Apple gives us sales and download reports that are aggregated and do not identify you.
Apple services you may use with the app
- iCloud Photos. If a video you pick is stored in iCloud rather than on your iPhone, iOS may download it from iCloud so the app can read it. That transfer is done by Apple's Photos system under your iCloud settings; the app does not send the video anywhere else.
- Diagnostics. If you choose to share analytics or crash data with app developers in iPhone Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements, Apple may give us anonymous crash and usage reports. We do not receive them otherwise and they do not identify you.
Sharing
We do not sell, rent or share your information. We do not collect or store your information. The clips you save are yours. If you post or send them (for example with the Share button, from Photos, by message or to a social app), that is your choice and is governed by the service you use. The app itself does not send them anywhere.
Keeping and deleting your data
All app data lives on your iPhone.
- Delete the app to remove its settings, your markup, your swing library and the learned detection profile.
- Delete a line or tracer in the app to remove it from the clip's markup.
- Reset the learned profile without deleting the app in Settings > Swing detection profile > Reset learned profile.
- Clips and Swing Sequence pictures in your Photos library stay there until you delete them in Photos.
- Delete Saved Clips, which the Review screen offers after a save was cancelled or stopped part-way, deletes the clips that save had already written to Photos, after iOS asks you to confirm.
Because we hold no personal data, there is nothing for us to delete or send on request.
Security
Your videos and data are processed on your device and protected by the security of iOS (including your passcode and device encryption). Because nothing is transmitted to us, there is no server-side copy to protect or to be breached.
Children
Impact Reel is not directed at children and we knowingly collect no personal information from anyone, including children.
Your privacy rights
Privacy laws such as the GDPR in the EU and UK and the CCPA in California give people rights over personal information that a company holds about them, such as access, correction and deletion. We hold no personal information about you, so there is nothing to access, correct or delete. If you think we do, or you have a privacy question or complaint, contact us at austin@cowboycapital.net and we will respond within 30 days.
International use
The app does not transfer any information out of your device, so there are no cross-border transfers to describe.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects your privacy (for example, if it ever sends data off your device), we will update this policy and the date above before the change takes effect, and describe the change in the App Store release notes. The latest version is always at https://cowboycapital.net/legal/impact-reel-privacy/.
