Golf swing video apps without a subscription
Five iPhone apps let you buy swing video tools once and own them: Impact Reel ($9.99), SwingDraw ($14.99), GolfClip ($6.99 plus a one-time Pro pack), Easy Tracer ($0.99) and, for a tracer alone, FlightArc and Golf Ball Tracer at no cost. Everything else that ranks for "golf swing app" is a subscription of $40 to $120 a year. Here is what each one-time app does, what it lacks, and who should buy which.
Prices and purchase models were read from each app's own US App Store page on October 24, 2026, and are checked monthly. Descriptions of other apps use their own listing text. We make Impact Reel, so read the verdicts with that in mind; the facts are checkable on each app's page.
The short answer
- You film whole range sessions and want every swing cut out, with lines, a tracer, slow motion and a swing sequence, in one purchase: Impact Reel, $9.99.
- You want to compare two swings side by side more than you want a tracer: SwingDraw ($14.99, drawing tools, body tracking, a swing library) or GolfClip ($6.99 plus a $6.99 Pro pack, cuts range video into clips, overlay comparison).
- You only want a ball-flight line on a clip you already have: Easy Tracer for $0.99, or FlightArc and Golf Ball Tracer for nothing. Expect a small developer and few ratings.
- You want the phone to catch each swing live and replay it at the bay: SwingReview (free download, $19.99 to unlock) or Swing Replay (a subscription). Impact Reel does not do live replay in 1.0.
- You want 3D measurements, automatic ball tracking or a coach on the other end: that is what the subscriptions buy. See the last section for what they cost.

Two apps sit between the groups. Shot Tracer is a $5.99 download whose original manual tracer and putt reader are included, while its live and automatic tracing sit behind a $9.99 a month subscription. SwingReview is a free download with a single $19.99 unlock, but it is a capture tool (the phone on a tripod catches each swing live), not an editor for video you already have.
Impact Reel, $9.99
Impact Reel is built for one habit: record the whole bucket, then keep every swing. It listens for each ball strike in the recording, checks the picture for a swing, and cuts one clip around every impact; you review the clips before anything is saved, and uncertain ones wait in their own tab. The editor has ready-made lines (shaft start line, foot line, head ring, a vertical line) and lines of your own, applied to every clip in a session in one go; slow motion to an eighth of the speed with the slow section on handles; a shot tracer you place by hand at the ball, two frames after impact, the apex and the landing; and a twelve-picture Swing Sequence. Notes and stars go in a library so you can see a change over weeks. Clips save to a Photos album per session, plain or with the markup, or as a replay that plays clean and then with the lines.
Everything runs on the phone: no account, no upload, no analytics. One purchase, every feature, and no planned price step.
What it does not do: no live replay at the range in 1.0 (a Range mode is planned), no measurements or 3D (lines and tracers are visual aids), no automatic ball tracking (the tracer is hand-marked, on purpose), no side-by-side comparison yet (the Mac app comes first), no cloud backup beyond what iCloud Photos does on its own, and no Android. If any of those is the reason you are buying, read the rows above.
SwingDraw, $14.99
SwingDraw's listing leads with "no subscriptions, no ads, no feature gates" and describes an analyzer: record or import swings, review them frame by frame, draw plane lines and checkpoints, compare two swings side by side, and keep a swing library with tags, favorites and club filters. It lists range sessions with detected clips, bulk import, body tracking and club-head tracing. It does not list a ball-flight tracer, slow motion beyond frame stepping, or where its video processing happens. The most complete one-time analyzer on the list, at the highest one-time price, with seven ratings on the day checked.
GolfClip, $6.99 plus a $6.99 Pro pack
GolfClip has the same starting point as Impact Reel: "turn one long range video into clean, one-swing clips, automatically." It detects swings on the device, splits the video into clips, and adds two things Impact Reel lacks today, side-by-side and overlay comparison of two swings aligned at the top or at impact. It draws lines and circles and backs clips up to Google Drive if you want. Its listing describes a free tier with ads and a daily comparison limit, and a one-time Pro pack; on the day checked the download itself was $6.99. No tracer, no slow motion and no swing sequence are listed. Zero ratings on the day checked; it was first listed in October 2026.
Easy Tracer, $0.99; FlightArc and Golf Ball Tracer, free
Three tracer-only apps with nothing else to buy. Easy Tracer's method is the same as Impact Reel's: tap where the ball launches, peaks and lands, then export the clip with the line on it. FlightArc asks for the impact and landing points, lets you set the color, thickness and trail, and exports without a watermark. Golf Ball Tracer adds a scoreboard and a bird's-eye flyover of the hole. Between them they had 27 ratings on the day checked, so expect small teams and slow updates; for a line on one clip that may not matter.
What the subscription apps cost instead
For the same job, or a bigger one, the apps with thousands of ratings sell a free download and a subscription. The cheapest annual plan on each, read from its in-app purchase list on October 24, 2026:
| App | Cheapest year | Monthly | What the subscription is mostly for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Onform | $49.99 | $4.99 | Video analysis and sharing with a coach |
| Swing Profile | $49.99 to $59.99 | $8.99 to $9.99 | Hands-free capture, instant replay, automatic lines and ball tracking |
| V1 Golf | $79.99 | $9.99 | Ball tracing, skeletal tracking, cloud sessions, coaching |
| Ace Trace | $69.99 (weekly plans $4.99 to $6.99) | Tracer with effects, no tripod needed | |
| GolfCam | $69.99 | $9.99 to $12.99 | Golf vlog editing with a tracer |
| GolfFix | $99.99 | $14.99 | Swing analysis with drills |
| Sportsbox 3D | $109.99 | $15.99 | 3D measurements from a phone video |
| Sparrow | $99.99 to $119.99 | $14.99 to $29.99 | Real-time analysis with voice feedback |
| Swing Coach | $119.99 | $14.99 | Practice app with analysis |
| Swing Replay | $39.99 | $5 | Hands-free instant replay on a tripod |
A year of the cheapest of those is five times Impact Reel's price; a year of the dearest is twelve times. That is not an argument that they are worse. Sportsbox measures the swing in 3D, Swing Profile and V1 track the ball automatically, Onform and V1 connect you to a coach, and none of that is on the one-time list. It is an argument for knowing which job you are paying for. Most golfers who film at the range want to find the swings, slow them down, draw a line and keep the good ones, and that job does not need a subscription. The full list of every app and its model is on the compare page.
Questions
Does "no subscription" mean no in-app purchases at all?
For Impact Reel, SwingDraw, Easy Tracer, FlightArc and Golf Ball Tracer, yes: nothing is listed under in-app purchases. GolfClip lists a one-time Pro pack. Shot Tracer and SwingReview are listed with their models in the table above.
Why are the big apps subscriptions?
Cloud storage, coaching marketplaces and automatic tracking cost the developer money every month, and a subscription pays for it. An app that runs on your phone and stores clips in your Photos library has no such cost, which is why it can be bought once.
Is there a free trial of Impact Reel?
No. Paid apps on the App Store have no trial. The product page and the user guide show every screen, and Apple handles refund requests for any app through its Report a Problem page.
Will Impact Reel's price go up?
There is no planned change: $9.99, every feature included, and updates come with it.
Does Impact Reel work on Android?
No. iPhone only, iOS 17 or later.
